50th Combined Class Reunion Information
Classmates of MTHS 1965, 1966, 1967 Graduation Years
Our Combined 50th Class Reunion is now over. As promised, here are the pictures from both Friday and Saturday nights events.
Friday Night: Mi-Jo NYC Harbor Cruise
We had a full complement on board The Mi-Jo for our NYC Harbor Cruise.
We cruised across the Raritan Bay, in some choppy waters, but that didn't stop us.....not this group of Lions.
We cruised under the Verrazano Bridge and into the lower Manhattan Harbor. There we gazed upon the Freedom Tower and the lower Manhattan Skyline.
While we motored slowly around the lower end of the Hudson River, we witnessed the most beautiful “Harvest Moon” rising up over Brooklyn.
We cruised very closely to “Our Lady Of The Harbor” Lady Liberty, with her Torch lit and welcoming us in for some great Photo Ops.
The Captain then took us up The East River and under the Brooklyn Bridge, where we got a view of The Southstreet Seaport, The Woolworth Building and the Wall Street side of Downtown NYC.
As we sailed back across the bay to join our other Classmates who were gathering at On The Deck, we got one last view of the Harvest Moon above and under the span of the Verrazano.
While on board the Mi-Jo, many classmates "feasted" on the hit of the evening: TAYLOR HAM and Cheese on a Hardroll. Good ole Jersey food at its best. Classmates brought their own drinks on board and had a great time breathing in the salt sea air and loving being on the Jersey Shore again.
After we docked, many of the classmates on board joined in the fun upstairs in the On The Deck Restaurant. There they found many old friends, made some new ones after 50 years, had a few drinks and lots of laughs.
A classmate (Raoul Nolan 67) brought his MTHS Reunion Picture Frame and had almost everyone there use it for a fun "Photo Op".
Laughter, stories and friendship abounded in both the cruise and On The Deck and a fun time was had by all.
This was the big event. The banquet hall was decorated with Orange and Black Balloons and "50th" Balloons to commemorate the evening.
During the Cocktail hour, all of our classmates checked in and received their Yearbook Picture Name Tag along with a name tag for their guest.
Cocktail hour started at 7 PM, BUT......we had everyone checked in by 6:30. Many classmates took the time to look at our Memorabilia Tables and reminisce with friends about what it was like back then and how times were simpler. I'm sure that an occasional party was discussed or school dance or football games or.....who knows what all.
The bars opened at 7 and many took the time to get a drink and have some appetizers, while catching up with old friends not seen in many a year. It was a time to reflect on times passed and lives lived, children, grandchildren, work life, retired life and how it feels to be out of school 59 years.
After cocktail hour, we adjourned into the main ballroom for a fun night of Dancing, catching up, picture taking and general mischievousness.
We ran a 50-50 Raffle to kick off the Tommy Blevins Scholarship Fund. This scholarship, initiated by Rod Paladino, (Tommy's best friend and fellow Marine and Vietnam War Hero), will accompany the Tom Blevins Outstanding Wrestler Award given each year to one wrestler from Middletown North (Our Old MTHS). I have attached the link below for that should anyone wish to donate to this wonderful cause. If the link is no longer working by the time your read this and you want to donate, please reach out to Russ Howard for direction.
